Merry Christmas!
Quinn had quite a Christmas. She went from calm and happy on Christmas Eve morning...
...to freaky and hysterical that evening. No pictures are available of her breakdown...mommy was a little stressed out! By Christmas night, she was just plain out of it. Here she is collapsed on my sister Peggy's shoulder...
I'm working on a longer entry for the journal. Despite her occasional freakiness, it was a great Christmas! :-)
Tomorrow I'm going to the airport to pick up my niece Kaitlin, who lives in California and hasn't met Quinn yet. It should be a fun week.

Fried
Quinn has been a little overwhelmed by all the Christmas craziness...we were glad to spend the day with her just hanging out at home today. Pictures from what we've been doing to come...

Two month shots and the hot breath of Christmas panting on my neck. (what?)
Quinn goes to the doctor today for her 2-month checkup, which includes shots. SHOTS. Oh my God. I don't even want to think about it. I'm going to need to wear one of her diapers or something.
I don't know what that means.
Also, I'd like to announce that I'm having a party here tomorrow night and the family room is TRASHED from my present-wrapping binge I've been on for the past 2 days. Plus the rest of the house needs a little attention. Oh, and I have no food or anything ready.
Yep. Yessss. Yes sir. I'm a top-notch Christmas elf.

ow!
There were 4 shots.
She made noises I've never heard her make before. I didn't cry as much as her, but I came close.
Sometimes being a mom is hard. :-(

Quinn is SO HAPPY late

Quinn is SO HAPPY late at night. At about 11:30 p.m., she comes out of her gritchy period and is just delighted to be alive. Last night we were lying in bed talking to her, and she was cracking me up. She'd study the face of whoever was talking, then bust out a big ole grin or a loud coo. OH MY GOD is she cute. I just love her.

Wal Mart Rots
Well, I think I'm about done with Wal Mart.
Quinn and I just took a trip there to sample from their low-low prices...and indeed they were low, but guess what I saw flopping around in the baby section?
A frog.
GROSSER!
No one wants to see a frog when they're shopping for their child's food. No one does. No one.
Today's gratuitous picture is of Quinn during play time in her "fruit stripe" outfit--the first outfit she ever had, by the way.

Weezy
I'm taking Quinn to the doctor today at 2:00 because she has an icky cold. She's had it for over a week (courtesty of me), and now she's wheezing, but not coughing anything up. I feel so bad for her! I have an entry about her to post in my journal, but there are about 500 things I have to do first. Gah.

new entry
Oops, forgot to mention that there's a new entry about Quinn over in my journal. It's the 12/13 entry.

Doctor report (these subject headings are so lame!)

Our pediatrician rocks. He always spends so much time with us--we never feel rushed, or like clods, or like we're overreacting with our concerns. He said there's nothing new we can do for Quinn--we just have to let her get over the cold on her own. We have to continue to keep the vaporizer on in her room and suction her nose when it gets stuffy, which we've been doing for almost 2 weeks.
Suctioning her nose. Let's discuss the beauty of THAT job.
Or, we could discuss the two young men with mullets who just appeared on "Who's The Boss."
Quinn wouldn't stop smiling when I was feeding her the other day, so I took her picture.
There's a new journal entry up about her. It's the 12/13 entry at parsley.org.

Today's outfit
For those curious, here is Quinn's outfit for going to Michael's to buy wrapping paper.
I love a baby in overalls!

Sleep geek
I am so cool.
I decided last night at midnight to wait up for Quinn's 1:30 a.m. feeding so that Andy and I wouldn't have to grunt at each other until one of us got up to get her. Do you want to know what time she finally woke up for her 1:30 feeding?
She didn't.
At 3:00 a.m. I finally staggered into her room, bleary-eyed from looking through classmates.com for three hours (you can kill a lot of time there if you've attended as many schools as I have). A fresh Family Ties was about to start, and I wanted to feed her while watching something slightly entertaining so I wouldn't pass out on her head. She looked a little startled to be plucked out of bed, but she adaped well.
After eating happily, she immediately passed out. I don't even remember dumping her back in her crib, but I think it was 3:20 when I collapsed in bed.
And then 3:30 when Baxter started barking to go out.
"Oh no!" I bellowed. "You're not going ANYWHERE! Golaydown! Golaydown!" I continued this tirade until I realized that Andy was already downstairs letting him out.
Then...I passed out.
So this morning, Andy handled the 7:30 a.m. feeding, then placed Quinn in bed next to me. When I heard her land, I couldn't even open my eyes. I was so tired that they were burning. I wanted desperately to go back to sleep.
I peeked at her.
She was grinning at me--a big ole toothless grin--and batting her eyelashes. When she realized I was awake, she let out a hearty coo.
I closed my eyes again. It was too much. I couldn't even look at her.
But Quinn was in full charm mode. Many, many bubbly coos. Frantic kicking. Arm flapping. Every time I snuck a look, she was smiling and batting those eyelashes. I almost expected her to get up and do a little soft shoe for me.
And I couldn't even appreciate it.
Finally, she started to fall asleep. After a few more last-ditch chirps, she was silent.
I know. I'm Mother of the Year.

Ssssssslurrrppp
I put Quinn in her crib so she could nap more comfortably, then returned to my desk. A few minutes later, I heard a loud clicking sound coming from her room. I envisioned her {{popup fishiessmall2.jpg fishiessmall2 400x264}}Peaceful Planet Aquarium having fallen on her head, or her having spit up and choked to death or something. When I got to her crib, I saw that she had both hands jammed in her mouth and she was slurping....SLURPING away at them. When she noticed me standing there watching, she gave me an alarmed look..."Hey lady! I can't get these things out of my mouth! Help!"

Wednesday morning
I gave Quinn a bath this morning in her little plastic bathtub that fits in the kitchen sink. I think she likes baths--she never cries and she usually looks pleased to be in the water. But this morning she just looked concerned...she kept looking down at her submerged legs, then up at me as if to say, "This can't be right. What's going on here?"
We finished up quick-like, then hurried up to her boudoir to get her dressed before she could pee on me.
Because we both have colds and it's icky and rainy out, we decided to spend the day in pajamas.
Now she's in position for her morning nap, sitting in her bouncy chair atop my desk.
We live the rock star life over here, yes we do.

Reading
Last night, Quinn and I were lying in my bed while I read Consumer Reports. I noticed that she was staring at the magazine along with me. She even started on the left side of the page and moved her eyes to the right each time I turned the page. So tonight I sat on her bedroom floor with her, in front of her book case, and we read some books together. She didn't last long. We got through "Go, Dog, Go!" and "The Foot Book", and we were about half way through with "Are You My Mother?" when she started crying. I don't blame her. That book is really annoying.

Tear
OK, I know I'm out of control with the updates. Maybe the novelty will wear off. But right now I want to document the fact that while Danny was changing Quinn, she shed her first real tear! Here they are at the scene of the crime:

Diaper fun
Just as my sandwich got done heating, Quinn woke up from her nap. But then I was saved...Danny (my nephew) stopped by to visit. I plunked Quinn in his lap, and when she started to make smells, he offered to change her diaper.
He's in there with her now.
"You are just one PISSED OFF BABY."
"OK, calm down."
"Ooh, I buttoned you wrong."
"I think you're just looking for attention."
hee hee.
