Shake a tail feather

Quinn's been getting more and more musical lately. It's not entirely her own doing, of course. We've been encouraging it.

She had a little toy drum a few months ago that she loved to beat on. Once I saw that, I dug three two rack toms and a snare from my drum kit in storage and put them on the floor for her to beat on. I also got her a pair of sticks, but they were not Quinn sized, so I cut them down to about half their original length. There was a time when she would go downstairs all the time and whack the drums, listening to the different sounds each one made.

Then one day, the TiVo told us that there was a concert on the Freeview channel by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, so I recorded it. BBVD are one of those new swing bands that came out of the late 90s like the Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. She went nuts for it. She saw the "drummies" in the back, and then went on to learn all the other instruments: panno, i-tar, sass-a-phone, tum-pit and tom-bone. I bought the first BBVD album, and we now listen to it in the car. She asks for the drummies CD as much as the Wiggies. If I sing some of "Mr. Pinstripe Suit" or "You And Me And The Bottle Makes Three Tonight", she says "Daddy singin' drummies!"

So last night, it hit me: BBVD do "Minnie The Moocher" on that CD, so I got our DVD of "The Blues Brothers" and put it on, skipping to the various musical numbers. The big hit: Dancing in the streets to "Shake a Tail Feather" outside Ray's Music Exchange. Mommy, Quinny and I danced around the living room at least three times to that song. Quinn watched the TV very closely, watching how everyone danced. When they do as Brother Ray says ("Bend over, let me see you shake a tail feather"), she bends over and shakes her butt.

The Wiggles are fine and all, but Quinn enjoying Aretha, Ray and the Godfather of Soul makes me smile.

Little Amy

My friend Anne sent me this picture tonight...why Anne has a picture of me taken when I was 4 years old, I have no idea...but I do know that I am STYLIN' and PROFILIN' in my gold sweatshirt and in that PHAT SANDBOX! I loved that thing!!

Quinn is a HUGGABLE BUNNY!!! HUGGGGGGGABLE! BUNNY!

That sweatshirt was $4 at K-mart, by the way...only the best for the Lester girls!

Adorableness alert

Quinn is now into verbal affection. She's been saying things like "I loff, you, daddy" and "I loff, you, mommy" for a while now, but she just added a new one last night.

The three of us were on the bed playing, and Quinn put her head on the pillow next to Amy and said "Mama, bess, fend!"

Someday that girl will get eaten.
