Tree

Yay, we put our tree up!

While I was taking these, Quinn woke up because she dropped her blankie so I took her picture after I fetched it.

Note that she is sleeping with her Wizard of Oz dolls that she got for her birthday, and that they're still in the box. Also, when I downloaded this picture I thought...what's wrong with her? Why is she making that face? Then I remembered, oh yeah...that's how she smiles now.

*****

When Quinn came down from her nap today, she must have forgotten that the tree was up because she gasped dramatically and said, "Look at the TREE! It's a big, green tree! Just like a BIG, GREEN...FROG!!!" After further inspection (and commentary on all the "ormanents") she said, "It's SO CUTE!"

Quinn's new room

Quinn's new big-girl room is almost complete. All she needs are curtains and some more things for the walls, but we are all happy with the new digs!

Aunt Cinda and Uncle Henri were kind enough to paint it a pretty yellow color, and my friend Tara steered us to an inexpensive but swank furniture store for her new bed, dresser and nightstand. I got her cutie patootie bedding at Home Goods, a TJ Maxx cousin. Here it is!

Opposites, real & pretend, and Mungo

We've been doing a lot of opposites lately. It's a great activity for the car.

"I wanna think about opposites! You ask me, Daddy!"
"OK, what's the opposite of up?"
"Down!"
"What's the opposite of asleep?"
"Awakey!"
"What's the opposite of.... [thinking]... black?"
"White!"
"OK, you ask me one."
"What's the opposite of.... [emulating Daddy's thinking] tawwll?"
"Short!"
"Yes! Now you ask me more!"
"OK, what's the opposite of dressed?"
"Nakey!"
"What about.... dirty!"
"Cyean!"

We can do this two or three times in a car trip. It never grows old.

We've also been talking about real & pretend. The last couple of weeks, Quinn's had some nightmares about Swiper. She's woken up crying saying "I don't want Swiper! I don't want Swiper! Swiper's not in the closet!" ("X is not Y" is her way of saying "I don't want X to be Y") So I've had to go talk to her and reassure her that it was a bad dream and how that it was just a dream and when you wake up, the dream is gone, and it's not real.

During the day, Amy & I talk to her about real & pretend.
"Swiper's not real! He's pretend. He's only on the TV. And in a book. He's got gloves on his arms. and he's got a tail on his back!"
"Who else is pretend?"
"Mungo! He's only in a book."
"Who's real?"
"Baxter is real. He's got triangle ears. He's got a tail on his back, too!"
"Is Mommy real?"
"Yeah."
"What about Daddy?"
"Yeah,he's real."
"What about the Wiggles?"
"They're real! We saw them at the show!"

If anyone can find any more Mungo books besides Mungo Lost & Alone or On My Own we'd love to hear about 'em. She loves the two that Aunt Cinda gave her for her birthday.
